NCBI Description

This gene encodes carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT), which is a key enzyme in the metabolic pathway in mitochondria, peroxisomes and endoplasmic reticulum. CRAT catalyzes the reversible transfer of acyl groups from an acyl-CoA thioester to carnitine and regulates the ratio of acylCoA/CoA in the subcellular compartments. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2012]

Uniprot Description

CRAT: Carnitine acetylase is specific for short chain fatty acids. Carnitine acetylase seems to affect the flux through the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. It may be involved as well in the transport of acetyl-CoA into mitochondria. Belongs to the carnitine/choline acetyltransferase family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Mitochondrial; Acetyltransferase; EC 2.3.1.7

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.1

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; mitochondrial inner membrane; mitochondrion; peroxisomal matrix; peroxisome

Molecular Function: carnitine O-acetyltransferase activity; receptor binding

Biological Process: carnitine metabolic process, CoA-linked; fatty acid beta-oxidation using acyl-CoA oxidase; transport

Product Notes

The CRAT crat (Catalog #AAA8245209) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-CAT1 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CAT1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunocytochemistry (ICC). WB: 1/500 - 1/2000; IF/ICC: 1/50 - 1/100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CRAT crat for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CAT1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
