Related Product Information for anti-BMP-2 antibody
BMPs are proteins that act to induce the differentiation of mesenchymal-type cells into chondrocytes and osteoblasts before initiating bone formation. They promote the differentiation of cartilage-forming cells and bone-forming cells near sites of fractures but also at ectopic locations. Some of the proteins induce the synthesis of alkaline phosphatase and collagen in osteoblasts. Some BMPs act directly on osteoblasts and promote their maturation while at the same time suppressing myogenous differentiation. Other BMPs promote the conversion of typical fibroblasts into chondrocytes and are capable also of inducing the expression of an osteoblast phenotype in non-osteogenic cell types. Intracellular signaling following engagement of receptors for some BMP proteins has been shown to involve the action of SMAD proteins. BMP-2 wild type binds to its cellular receptors via two distinct binding epitopes. The large epitope 1 is responsible for the high- affinity binding to the BMPR-IA receptor, the smaller epitope 2 provides the low-affinity binding to the receptor BMPR-II.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. The encoded protein acts as a disulfide-linked homodimer and induces bone and cartilage formation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Induces cartilage and bone formation.

Subunit structure: Homodimer; disulfide-linked. Interacts with SOSTDC1. Interacts with GREM2, RGMA, RGMB and RGMC. Interacts with ASPN

By similarity. Ref.4

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Particularly abundant in lung, spleen and colon and in low but significant levels in heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, prostate, ovary and small intestine.

Pharmaceutical use: Available under the name Infuse (Medtronic Sofamor Danek). Used for treating open tibial shaft fractures.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the TGF-beta family.

Product Notes

The BMP-2 bmp2 (Catalog #AAA551015) is an Antibody produced from Polyclonal anti BMP-2 was produced from sera of rabbits immunized with synthetic peptide containing BMP-2 C-terminus antigenic determinants. and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit anti BMP-2 Polyclonal reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BMP-2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). ELISA: Use at a concentration range of 1-2ug/ml. Western blot:A suitable range of concentrations of this antibody for WB detection is 2-10 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BMP-2 bmp2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BMP-2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
