(Immunofluorescent analysis of BLCAP staining in NIH3T3 cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 degree C in a hidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a Alexa Fluor 594-conjugated secondary antibody (red) in PBS at room temperature in the dark.)

This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that reduces cell growth by stimulating apoptosis. The first intron of this gene contains the neuronatin gene, which is imprinted and only expressed from the paternal allele. This gene is imprinted in brain where it is differentially expressed from different promoters. Transcription from the upstream promoter occurs preferentially on the maternal allele, and transcripts are preferentially expressed from the downstream promoter on the paternal allele. Alternative promoters and alternative splicing result in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]
