Related Product Information for anti-BCL2 antibody
Bcl-2 alpha and beta are alternatively spliced isoforms of 25 kDa and 22 kDa integral membrane proteins that typically inhibit apoptosis; however Bcl-2 can also be pro-apoptotic. Bcl-2 is found in the mitochondrial, ER and nuclear membranes, and its subcellular location appears to affect whether it is pro-apoptotic or anti-apoptotic. Bcl-2 becomes pro-apoptotic when it is either cleaved by caspase-3 or targeted to the mitochondrial membrane. When Bcl-2 is targeted to the ER membrane, it protects cells from apoptosis induced by Bax overexpression. ER membrane Bcl-2 may protect against apoptosis by preserving the integrity of the mitochondria after an apoptotic stimulus. Bcl-2 family members are characterized by at least one of four Bcl-2 homology domains (BH1-BH4). Anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 proteins contain BH1-BH4 while pro-apoptotic proteins contain either BH1-BH3 or BH3 alone (e.g., Bad, Bid).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes an integral outer mitochondrial membrane protein that blocks the apoptotic death of some cells such as lymphocytes. Constitutive expression of BCL2, such as in the case of translocation of BCL2 to Ig heavy chain locus, is thought to be the cause of follicular lymphoma. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]

Uniprot Description

Bcl-2: a antiapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family. Regulates cell death by controlling the mitochondrial membrane permeability. Inhibits caspase activity either by preventing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria and/or by binding to the apoptosis-activating factor (APAF-1). Phosphorylation by JNKs may increase its antiapoptotic functions.

Product Notes

The BCL2 bcl2 (Catalog #AAA565340) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Bcl-2 polyclonal antibody reacts with Human, Monkey and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Bcl-2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). Immunoprecipitation (1:100) Western Blot (1ug/ml, ECL) Suggested dilutions/conditions may not be available for all applications. Detects a band of ~25kDa by Western blot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BCL2 bcl2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Bcl-2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
