Related Product Information for anti-ACO1 antibody
Aconitase 1, also known as iron regulatory element binding protein 1 (IREB1), is a cytosolic protein which binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs). IREs are stem-loop structures found in the 5' UTR of ferritin mRNA, and in the 3' UTR of transferrin receptor mRNA. The iron-induced binding to the IRE results in repression of translation of ferritin mRNA, and inhibition of degradation of the otherwise rapidly degrading transferrin receptor mRNA. Thus, IREB1 plays a central role in cellular iron homeostasis. It was also shown to have aconitase activity, and hence grouped with the aconitase family of enzymes.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a bifunctional, cytosolic protein that functions as an essential enzyme in the TCA cycle and interacts with mRNA to control the levels of iron inside cells. When cellular iron levels are high, this protein binds to a 4Fe-4S cluster and functions as an aconitase. Aconitases are iron-sulfur proteins that function to catalyze the conversion of citrate to isocitrate. When cellular iron levels are low, the protein binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs), which are stem-loop structures found in the 5' UTR of ferritin mRNA, and in the 3' UTR of transferrin receptor mRNA. When the protein binds to IRE, it results in repression of translation of ferritin mRNA, and inhibition of degradation of the otherwise rapidly degraded transferrin receptor mRNA. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]

Uniprot Description

IREB1: Iron sensor. Binds a 4Fe-4S cluster and functions as aconitase when cellular iron levels are high. Functions as mRNA binding protein that regulates uptake, sequestration and utilization of iron when cellular iron levels are low. Binds to iron-responsive elements (IRES) in target mRNA species when iron levels are low. Binding of a 4Fe-4S cluster precludes RNA binding. Belongs to the aconitase/IPM isomerase family.

Product Notes

The ACO1 aco1 (Catalog #AAA6461094) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Aconitase 1 (ACO1, ACONS, IREB1, IREBP, IREBP1, IRP1, Aconitate Hydratase, Citrate Hydro-lyase, Ferritin Repressor Protein, Iron Regulatory Protein 1, Iron-responsive Element Binding Protein 1) (Biotin) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Aconitase 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). For maximum recovery of product, 11c7entrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ACO1 aco1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Aconitase 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
