NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a mechanically-activated ion channel that links mechanical forces to biological signals. The encoded protein contains 36 transmembrane domains and functions as a homotetramer. Defects in this gene have been associated with dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015]

Uniprot Description

PIEZO1: Component of mechanosensitive channel required for the mechanosensitive currents. Plays a key role in epithelial cell adhesion by maintaining integrin activation through R-Ras recruitment to the ER, most probably in its activated state, and subsequent stimulation of calpain signaling. Belongs to the PIEZO family.

Protein type: Endoplasmic reticulum; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q24.3

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: cation channel activity; mechanically-gated ion channel activity

Biological Process: cation transport; detection of mechanical stimulus; positive regulation of cell-cell adhesion mediated by integrin; positive regulation of integrin activation; regulation of membrane potential

Disease: Dehydrated Hereditary Stomatocytosis With Or Without Pseudohyperkalemia And/or Perinatal Edema; Lymphedema, Hereditary, Iii

Product Notes

The Human PIEZO1 piezo1 (Catalog #AAA9428406) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA9428406 ELISA Kit recognizes Human PIEZO1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Piezo-type mechanosensitive ion channel component 1, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
