Principle of the assay: OSM ELISA kit applies the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique utilizing a monoclonal anti-OSM antibody and an OSM-HRP conjugate. The assay sample and buffer are incubated together with OSM-HRP conjugate in pre-coated plate for one hour. After the incubation period, the wells are decanted and washed five times. The wells are then incubated with a substrate for HRP enzyme. The product of the enzyme-substrate reaction forms a blue colored complex. Finally, a stop solution is added to stop the reaction, which will then turn the solution yellow. The intensity of color is measured spectrophotometrically at 450nm in a microplate reader. The intensity of the color is inversely proportional to the OSM concentration since OSM from samples and OSM-HRP conjugate compete for the anti-OSM antibody binding site. Since the number of sites is limited, as more sites are occupied by OSM from the sample, fewer sites are left to bind OSM-HRP conjugate. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The OSM concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

NCBI Description

Oncostatin M is a member of a cytokine family that includes leukemia-inhibitory factor, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and interleukin 6. This gene encodes a growth regulator which inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. It regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

OSM: Growth regulator. Inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. Stimulates proliferation of AIDS-KS cells. It regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells. Uses both type I OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of LIPR and IL6ST) and type II OSM receptor (heterodimers composed of OSMR and IL6ST). Involved in the maturation of fetal hepatocytes, thereby promoting liver development and regeneration. Belongs to the LIF/OSM family.

Product Notes

The Canine OSM osm (Catalog #AAA738695) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA738695 ELISA Kit recognizes Canine OSM. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Oncostatin M, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
