Intended Use: This Mouse Myostatin (MSTN) ELISA kit is intended for laboratory research use only. The stop solution changes color from blue to yellow and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm using a spectrophotometer. In order to measure the concentration of Mouse Myostatin (MSTN) in the sample, this Mouse Myostatin (MSTN) ELISA Kit includes a set of calibration standards. The calibration standards are assayed at the same time as the samples and allow the operator to produce a standard curve of optical density versus Mouse Myostatin (MSTN) concentration. The concentration of the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate each subunit of the disulfide-linked homodimer. This protein negatively regulates skeletal muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. Homozygous knockout mice for this gene exhibit increased muscle mass and bone density, and reduced adiposity.
