Mouse Melanocortin Receptor 4 (MC4R) ELISA Kit | MC4R elisa kit
Mouse Melanocortin Receptor 4 (MC4R) ELISA Kit
* Allow all reagents to warm to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before opening.
* Pre-rinse the pipet tip with reagent, use fresh pipet tips for each sample, standard and reagent to avoid contamination.
* Unused wells must be kept desiccated at 4 degree C in the sealed bag provided.
* Mix Thoroughly is very important for the result. It is recommended using low frequency oscillator or slight hand shaking every 10 minutes.
* It is recommended that all samples and standards be assayed in duplicate or triplicate.
Background: Melanocortin receptor 4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MC4R gene. It encodes the MC4 protein, a G-protein coupled receptor that binds alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). In murine models MC4 receptors have been found to be involved in feeding behaviour, the regulation of metabolism, sexual behaviour, and male erectile function. In 1998, it was reported that MC4R mutations were associated with inherited human obesity. They were found in heterozygotes, suggesting an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. However, based on other research and observations, these mutations seem to have an incomplete penetrance and some degree of codominance. It has a prevalence of 1-2.5% in people with BMIs of greater than 30, making it the most commonly known genetic defect predisposing people to obesity.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a member of the melanocortin receptor family. Melanocortin receptors are transmembrane G-protein coupled receptors, which respond to small peptide hormones and exhibit diverse functions and tissue type localization. As part of the central nervous melanocortin system, the encoded protein is competitively bound by either melanocyte stimulating hormone or agouti-related protein to regulate energy homeostasis. Disruption of this gene promotes hyperphagia and obesity, and is associated with increased cholesterol levels and insulin resistance. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]
Uniprot Description
Receptor specific to the heptapeptide core common to adrenocorticotropic hormone and alpha-, beta-, and gamma-MSH. Plays a central role in energy homeostasis and somatic growth. This receptor is mediated by G proteins that stimulate adenylate cyclase (cAMP).

Product Notes
The Mouse MC4R mc4r (Catalog #AAA9717709) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA9717709 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse MC4R. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Melanocortin Receptor 4 (MC4R), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
