Reacts with a 17 residue sequence [EQHLESPVPSAPGALAG] found in the exon-3-encoded region in the human PUMA-alpha and PUMA-beta forms of the protein. Recognizes both forms of the protein.
Related Product Information for anti-PUMA antibody
A novel gene PUMA (p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis) is a target for activation by the p53 tumor-suppressor gene. p53 functions as a transcriptional activator, and influences p53-inducible genes that play a role in the induction of apoptosis in response to p53. Antisense inhibition of PUMA expression reduced the apoptotic response to p53, and PUMA is likely to play a role in mediating p53-induced cell death through the cytochrome c/Apaf-1-dependent pathway. In human and mouse, PUMA/bbc3 is one of the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members including Bax and Noxa, which are also transcriptional targets of p53.

Uniprot Description

PUMA: Essential mediator of p53/TP53-dependent and p53/TP53- independent apoptosis. Interacts with MCL1 and BCL2A1. Interacts with BCL2 and BCL2L1/BCL-XL. By DNA damage, glucocorticoid treatment, growth factor deprivation and p53/TP53. Ubiquitously expressed. Belongs to the Bcl-2 family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Mitochondrial

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; intracellular

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: caspase activation; release of cytochrome c from mitochondria; positive regulation of protein homooligomerization; positive regulation of apoptosis; determination of adult life span; glial cell differentiation; reduction of endoplasmic reticulum calcium ion concentration; positive regulation of neuron apoptosis; release of sequestered calcium ion into cytosol; brain development; response to DNA damage stimulus; DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator resulting in induction of apoptosis; negative regulation of growth

Product Notes

The PUMA bbc3 (Catalog #AAA555230) is an Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The PUMA, Affinity Purified Antibody, Rabbit reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PUMA can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PUMA bbc3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PUMA, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
