Scientific Background: Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 1 (also known as VDAC, VDAC1 or outer mitochondrial membrane protein porin 1) is the the outer mitochondrial membrane receptor for hexokinase and BCL2L1. VDAC forms a channel through the mitochondrial membrane and is involved in small molecule diffusion, cell volume regulation and apoptosis. VDAC may participate in the formation of the permeability transition pore complex (PTPC), which is responsible for the release of mitochondrial products that triggers apoptosis.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a voltage-dependent anion channel protein that is a major component of the outer mitochondrial membrane. The encoded protein facilitates the exchange of metabolites and ions across the outer mitochondrial membrane and may regulate mitochondrial functions. This protein also forms channels in the plasma membrane and may be involved in transmembrane electron transport. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Multiple pseudogenes of this gene are found on chromosomes 1, 2 3, 6, 9, 12, X and Y.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]
Uniprot Description
VDAC1: a protein of the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family. Forms a voltage-dependent anion channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane and also the plasma membrane. The channel allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules; it adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective.

Product Notes
The VDAC1 vdac1 (Catalog #AAA804025) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The VDAC1 Antibody: RPE reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's VDAC1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). 1:1000 WB. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VDAC1 vdac1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VDAC1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
