Specificity
This product recognises the sequence TETSQVAPA corresponding to aa 340 to 348 of bovine rhodopsin, a pigment of the retina responsible for the formation of photoreceptor cells and the first events in the perception of light. Rhodopsin consists of the protein opsin and a reversibly bound cofactor, retinal, a photoreactive chromophore. Upon light absorption the 11-cis-retinal is isomerised to all-trans retinal, leading to a change in the shape of rhodopsin. The change activates the associated G protein and triggers a second messenger cascade, eventually resulting in the transmission of a nerve impulse to the brain. The trans-retinal is released and converted back into 11-cis-retinal for re-entry into the cycle.

Defects in the gene cause various retinopathies such as retinitis pigmentosa and X-linked congenital stationary night blindness.

Uniprot Description

Photoreceptor required for image-forming vision at low light intensity. Required for photoreceptor cell viability after birth. Light-induced isomerization of 11-cis to all-trans retinal triggers a conformational change leading to G-protein activation and release of all-trans retinal ().

Product Notes

The RHO rho (Catalog #AAA219700) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MOUSE ANTI RHODOPSIN reacts with Amphibia, Mammals and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's RHODOPSIN can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoprecipitation (IP), Immunohistology Paraffin, Western Blot (WB). Immunohistology - Paraffin: Maximum Dilution: 1/100; Western Blotting: Maximum Dilution: 1/1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the RHO rho for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "RHODOPSIN, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
