Specificity
Recognizes a protein of 480kDa, which is identified as FAT2. The cadherins represent a family of Ca2+-dependent adhesion molecules that function to mediate cell-to-cell binding that is critical for the maintenance of structure and morphogenesis. Cadherins each contain a large extracellular domain at the N-terminus, which is characterized by a series of five homologous repeats, the most distal of which is thought to be responsible for binding specificity. The relatively short C-terminal intracellular domain interacts with a variety of cytoplasmic proteins, including beta-catenin, to regulate cadherin function. The cadherin superfamily includes cadherins, protocadherins, desmogleins and desmocollins. FAT2 (FAT tumor suppressor homolog 2) is a single-pass type I membrane protein that belongs to the protocadherin subfamily of cadherins. FAT2 contains one Laminin G-like domain, two EGF-like domains and 32 cadherin domains and is believed to function as a cell adhesion molecule, controlling cell proliferation and playing an important role in cerebellum development.

NCBI Description

This gene is the second identified human homolog of the Drosophila fat gene, which encodes a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during Drosophila development. The gene product is a member of the cadherin superfamily, a group of integral membrane proteins characterized by the presence of cadherin-type repeats. In addition to containing 34 tandem cadherin-type repeats, the gene product has two epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats and one laminin G domain. This protein most likely functions as a cell adhesion molecule, controlling cell proliferation and playing an important role in cerebellum development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Plays a role in the migration of epidermal cells. May modulate the extracellular space surronding parallel fibers of cerebellar during development ().

Product Notes

The FAT2 fat2 (Catalog #AAA439953) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Protocadherin FAT2 (FAT Atypical Cadherin 2) reacts with Human. Others not known. and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Protocadherin FAT2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin. FC/FACS: 0.5-1ug/million cells IF: 1-2ug/ml IHC-F: 0.5-1ug/ml for 30 min at RT; Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM Citrate Buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FAT2 fat2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Protocadherin FAT2, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
