NCBI Description

This gene encodes a mitochondrion outer membrane protein that catalyzes the hydroxylation of L-tryptophan metabolite, L-kynurenine, to form L-3-hydroxykynurenine. Studies in yeast identified this gene as a therapeutic target for Huntington disease. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

Uniprot Description

KMO: Catalyzes the hydroxylation of L-kynurenine (L-Kyn) to form 3-hydroxy-L-kynurenine (L-3OHKyn). Required for synthesis of quinolinic acid, a neurotoxic NMDA receptor antagonist and potential endogenous inhibitor of NMDA receptor signaling in axonal targeting, synaptogenesis and apoptosis during brain development. Quinolinic acid may also affect NMDA receptor signaling in pancreatic beta cells, osteoblasts, myocardial cells, and the gastrointestinal tract. Belongs to the aromatic-ring hydroxylase family. KMO subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Amino Acid Metabolism - tryptophan; Mitochondrial; EC 1.14.13.9; Oxidoreductase; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q42-q44

Cellular Component: cytosol; integral to membrane; mitochondrial inner membrane; mitochondrial outer membrane

Molecular Function: FAD binding; kynurenine 3-monooxygenase activity; NAD(P)H oxidase activity

Product Notes

The KMO kmo (Catalog #AAA7600902) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Kynurenine 3 monooxygenase Mouse Monoclonal reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Kynurenine 3 monooxygenase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500 - 1:2000 IHC: 1:100 - 1:200 IF: 1:10 - 1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KMO kmo for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Kynurenine 3 monooxygenase, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
