Related Product Information for anti-GIF antibody
Gastric intrinsic factor, also known as GIF, belongs to the of the cobalamin transport protein family. It is a glycoprotein produced by the parietal cells of the stomach. Gastric intrinsic factor plays a key role in the absorption of vitamin B12 on in the small intestine. Vitamin B12 bounds to haptocorrin after entry into the stomach. The resulting complex enters the duodenum, where pancreatic enzymes digest haptocorrin. In the less acidic environment of the small intestine, B12 can then bind to gastric intrinsic factor. This new complex travels to the ileum, where special epithelial cells endocytose them. Inside the cell, B12 dissociates once again and binds to another protein, transcobalamin II. The new complex can exit the epithelial cells to enter the liver.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the cobalamin transport protein family. It encodes a glycoprotein secreted by parietal cells of the gastric mucosa and is required for adequate absorption of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is necessary for erythrocyte maturation and mutations in this gene may lead to congenital pernicious anemia. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

GIF: Promotes absorption of the essential vitamin cobalamin (Cbl) in the ileum. After interaction with CUBN, the GIF-cobalamin complex is internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis. Defects in GIF are the cause of hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency (IFD); also known as congenital pernicious anemia. IFD is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by megaloblastic anemia. Belongs to the eukaryotic cobalamin transport proteins family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The GIF gif (Catalog #AAA8106990) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Recombinant Anti-Intrinsic Factor Antibody, Rabbit Monoclonal reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Intrinsic Factor can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunoprecipitation (IP). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IP: 0.2-1uL/mg of lysate. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GIF gif for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Intrinsic Factor, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
