Biological Significance
Glutathione is important for a variety of biological functions, including protection of cells from oxidative damage byfree radicals, detoxification of xenobiotics, and membrane transport. The protein encoded by this gene functions as a homodimer to catalyze the second step of glutathione biosynthesis, which is the ATP-dependent conversion of gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteine to glutathione. Defects in this gene are a cause of glutathione synthetase deficiency.
Cross-Reactivity
Human, Dog, Rat
Immunogen
GSS antibody was raised in mouse using a full length recombinant protein of human GSS (NP_000169) produced in HEK293T cells, as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C for short term storage. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Uniprot Description

GSS: Defects in GSS are the cause of glutathione synthetase deficiency (GSS deficiency); also known as 5- oxoprolinuria or pyroglutamic aciduria. It is a severe form characterized by an increased rate of hemolysis and defective function of the central nervous system. Defects in GSS are the cause of glutathione synthetase deficiency of erythrocytes (GLUSYNDE)[MIM:231900]. Glutathione synthetase deficiency of erythrocytes is a mild form causing hemolytic anemia. Belongs to the eukaryotic GSH synthase family.

Product Notes

The GSS gss (Catalog #AAA533708) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's GSS can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Western Blot (WB). FC: 1:100 WB: 1:500-2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GSS gss for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GSS, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
