Related Product Information for anti-DES antibody
Desmin (53 kDa) exhibits a high degree of tissue specificity, its expression being predominantly confined to all types of muscle cells (cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle). Regulation of desmin expression is stage and tissue-specific, since it is induced during terminal development of, for example, skeletal muscle cell differentiation. In skeletal en cardiac muscle cells desmin is localized in the Z-disk region and at the intercalated disk. The expression pattern of desmin in smooth muscle is much more heterogenous. Coexpression of vimentin and desmin has been observed in tumors derived from muscle tissue, i.e. rhabdomyosarcomas and leiomyosarcomas. Furthermore, during myocard dysfunction dramatic changes in the distribution of desmin have been observed.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a muscle-specific class III intermediate filament. Homopolymers of this protein form a stable intracytoplasmic filamentous network connecting myofibrils to each other and to the plasma membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with desmin-related myopathy, a familial cardiac and skeletal myopathy (CSM), and with distal myopathies. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

desmin: a class-III intermediate filaments found in muscle cells. In adult striated muscle they form a fibrous network connecting myofibrils to each other and to the plasma membrane from the periphery of the Z-line structures. Mutations in this gene are associated with desmin-related myopathy, a familial cardiac and skeletal myopathy (CSM), and with distal myopathies.

Protein type: Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q35

Cellular Component: intermediate filament; fascia adherens; Z disc; neuromuscular junction; cytosol; sarcolemma

Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton; cytoskeletal protein binding

Product Notes

The DES des (Catalog #AAA570113) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse anti Desmin reacts with Chicken, Human, Mouse, Rabbit, Rat, Swine and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Desmin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) (frozen), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) (paraffin), Western Blot (WB). D9 is suitable for immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry on frozen and paraffin-embedded tissues. Optimal antibody dilution should be determined by titRation; recommended range is 1:25 - 1:200 for immunohistochemistry with avidin-biotinylated Horseradish peroxidase complex (ABC) as detection reagent, and 1:100 - 1:1000 for immunoblotting appliCations. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the DES des for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Desmin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
