NCBI Description

In mammals, the Y chromosome directs the development of the testes and plays an important role in spermatogenesis. A high percentage of infertile men have deletions that map to regions of the Y chromosome. The DAZ (deleted in azoospermia) gene cluster maps to the AZFc region of the Y chromosome and is deleted in many azoospermic and severely oligospermic men. It is thought that the DAZ gene cluster arose from the transposition, amplification, and pruning of the ancestral autosomal gene DAZL also involved in germ cell development and gametogenesis. This gene encodes a RNA-binding protein with two RNP motifs that was originally identified by its interaction with the infertility factors DAZ and DAZL. Two isoforms are encoded by transcript variants of this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

DAZAP1: a ubiquitous RNA-binding protein highly expressed in the human and the mouse testes. In round spermatids, it localizes mainly in the nuclei, whereas in elongated spermatids, it localizes to the cytoplasm. Expressed at lower level in thymus and weakly expressed in heart, liver, brain, placenta, lung, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. Fusion proteins between DAZAP1 and MEF2D have been observed in the TS-2 acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cell line. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Protein type: RNA-binding; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p13.3

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm

Molecular Function: RNA binding; nucleotide binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; cell proliferation; spermatogenesis; cell differentiation; maternal placenta development

Product Notes

The DAZAP1 plxnd1 (Catalog #AAA607626) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Deleted in Azoospermia-associated Protein 1 (DAZ-associated Protein 1, DAZAP1) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Deleted in Azoospermia-associated Protein 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the DAZAP1 plxnd1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Deleted in Azoospermia-associated Protein 1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
