NCBI Description

This gene product was isolated on the basis of its interaction with BRCA2 and p21 proteins. It is an evolutionarily conserved nuclear protein with multiple interacting domains. The N-terminal half shares moderate homology with regions of calmodulin and M-calpain, suggesting that it may also bind calcium. Functional studies indicate that this protein may be an important cofactor for BRCA2 in tumor suppression, and a modulator of CDK2 kinase activity via p21. This protein has also been implicated in the regulation of BRCA2 and RAD51 nuclear focus formation, double-strand break-induced homologous recombination, and cell cycle progression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

BCCIP: May promote cell cycle arrest by enhancing the inhibition of CDK2 activity by CDKN1A. May be required for repair of DNA damage by homologous recombination in conjunction with BRCA2. May not be involved in non-homologous end joining (NHEJ). Belongs to the BCP1 family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cell cycle regulation

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q26.1

Cellular Component: nuclear cyclin-dependent protein kinase holoenzyme complex; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; kinase regulator activity

Biological Process: regulation of cyclin-dependent protein kinase activity; DNA repair; cell cycle

Product Notes

The BCCIP bccip (Catalog #AAA605177) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The BRCA2 and CDKN1A-interacting Protein (BCCIP, P21 and CDK-associated Protein 1, Protein TOK-1, TOK 1, TOK1) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's BRCA2 and CDKN1A-interacting Protein can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BCCIP bccip for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BRCA2 and CDKN1A-interacting Protein, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
