Related Product Information for anti-KRT17 antibody
Cytokeratin 17 (CK17) is a member of the Cytokeratin subfamily of intermediate filament proteins (IFP's). It is unique in that it is normally expressed in the basal cells of complex epithelia but not in stratified or simple epithelia. CK17 is expressed in the nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands and other epidermal appendages. Antibody to CK17 is an excellent tool to distinguish myoepithelial cells from luminal epithelium of various glands such as mammary, sweat and salivary. CK17 is expressed in epithelial cells of various origins, such as bronchial epithelial cells and skin appendages. It may be considered as "epithelial stem cell" marker because CK17 Ab marks basal cell differentiation. CK17 can be useful when included in a panel of antibodies against TTF-1, napsin A, CK5&6, p63, and SOX-2 for test differentiation between lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCLC), especially for poorly-differentiated lung carcinoma. CK17 is expressed in SCLC much higher than in LADC. In breast carcinomas, approximately 20% of patients show no expression of ER, PR and Her2, which are defined as triple negative tumor. Eighty-five percent of the triple negative breast carcinomas immunoreact with basal cytokeratins including anti-CK17. Also important is that cases of triple negative breast carcinoma with expression of CK17 show an aggressive clinical course. The histologic differentiation of ampullary cancer, intestinal vs. pancreatobiliary, is very important for treatment. Usually anti-CK17 and anti-MUC1 immunoreactivity represents pancreatobiliary subtype whereas anti-MUC2 and anti-CDX-2 positivity defines intestinal subtype.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the type I intermediate filament chain keratin 17, expressed in nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. Mutations in this gene lead to Jackson-Lawler type pachyonychia congenita and steatocystoma multiplex. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]

Uniprot Description

K17: a type I cytoskeletal keratin. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: type I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) [K9 to K20] and type II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa) [K1 to K8]. Both a basic and an acidic keratin are required for filament assembly. Generally associates with K6.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q21.2

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; intermediate filament

Molecular Function: MHC class II receptor activity; protein binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton; MHC class II protein binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of hair follicle development; epidermis development; hair follicle morphogenesis; positive regulation of translation; keratinization; intermediate filament organization; signal transduction; positive regulation of cell growth

Disease: Steatocystoma Multiplex; Pachyonychia Congenita 2

Product Notes

The KRT17 krt17 (Catalog #AAA6236669) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Cytokeratin 17 (K17, Keratin Type I Cytoskeletal 17, Keratin-17, KRT17, PCHC1) (BSA & Azide Free) (MaxLight 750) reacts with Bovine, Goat, Human, Porcine, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Cytokeratin 17 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), ELISA (EIA), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western Blot (WB). Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KRT17 krt17 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cytokeratin 17, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
