NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins. It contributes to the transduction of CD2-generated signals in T cells and natural killer cells and has been suggested to play a role in growth regulation. Familial deficiency of this gene has been linked to an immunodeficiency associated with recurrent infectious diseases caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Product Notes

The CD53 cd53 (Catalog #AAA488700) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-CD53 [HD77] reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD53 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB), Immunoprecipitation (IP). This antibody has applications in the detection of normal and neoplastic white blood cells. This antibody has been used to stain tumour and mononuclear cells for CD53 expression in flow cytometric analysis of samples from ovarian carcinoma patients (Marme et al, 2002), and cells of the colon carcinoma line HT29 (Koretz et al, 1992). In immunohistochemical analysis of frozen tissue sections, this antibody has been shown to react with osteoclasts and osteoclast-like giant cells in malignant fibrous histiocytoma and in benign giant cell tumor of tendon sheath (Mechtersheimer et al, 1990). This antibody has been used to re-immunoprecipitate CD53 from PKCalpha immunoprecipiates (Zhang et al, 2001). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD53 cd53 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD53, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
