NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. The CD1 proteins mediate the presentation of primarily lipid and glycolipid antigens of self or microbial origin to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes organized in a cluster on chromosome 1. The CD1 family members are thought to differ in their cellular localization and specificity for particular lipid ligands. The protein encoded by this gene localizes to the plasma membrane and to recycling vesicles of the early endocytic system. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed, but their biological validity has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Antigen-presenting protein that binds self and non-self lipid and glycolipid antigens and presents them to T-cell receptors on natural killer T-cells. Ref.10 Ref.11 Ref.12

Subunit structure: Heterodimer with B2M (beta-2-microglobulin). Interacts with CD74. Ref.12

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Endosome membrane. Note: Subject to intracellular trafficking between the cell membrane and endosomes. Localizes to cell surface lipid rafts. Ref.10 Ref.12 Ref.15

Tissue specificity: Expressed on cortical thymocytes, epidermal Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, on certain T-cell leukemias, and in various other tissues. Ref.10 Ref.12

Miscellaneous: During protein synthesis and maturation, CD1 family members bind endogenous lipids that are replaced by lipid or glycolipid antigens when the proteins are internalized and pass through endosomes, before trafficking back to the cell surface.

Sequence similarities: Contains 1 Ig-like (immunoglobulin-like) domain.

Product Notes

The CD1a cd1a (Catalog #AAA684070) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti - CD1a reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD1a can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Formalin/Paraffin. IHC-P dilution 1:100 - 1:200; IHC-Fr application and dilution to be tested by the user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD1a cd1a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD1a, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
