Specificity
This item recognises complement component 9 (C9), a 71kDa member of the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family present in the blood serum and synthesised by the liver and monocytes. C9 is the last component to be added during the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC), binding the membrane associated C5b-8 complex and resulting in the circular polymerisation of 12-18 C9 molecules. This forms the hydrophilic transmembrane channel which causes cell lysis. Deficiency of C9 is associated with recurring infections by Neisseria meningitides.

This item does not recognise MAC.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the final component of the complement system. It participates in the formation of the Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). The MAC assembles on bacterial membranes to form a pore, permitting disruption of bacterial membrane organization. Mutations in this gene cause component C9 deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]

Uniprot Description

C9: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C9 is the pore-forming subunit of the MAC. Defects in C9 are a cause of complement component 9 deficiency (C9D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.

Product Notes

The C9 c9 (Catalog #AAA212937) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's C9 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the C9 c9 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C9, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
