Biological Significance
alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT) is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 55~68 kDa and 25% by weight of various sugars, whose heterogeneity results in variation of molecular weight. It inhibits chymotrypsin-like proteinases in vivo and has cytotoxic killer-cell activity in vitro. The protein also has a role as an acute-phase protein and is active in the control of immunologic and inflammatory processes, and as a tumor marker. Plasma ACT levels might increase rapidly more than 5-fold during an acute phase reaction, ACT has been shown to promote Abeta polymerization in vitro and in vivo, and levels of ACT protein in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid from Alzheimer's patients have been found to correlate with progression of dementia.
Cross-Reactivity
Human
Immunogen
alpha1 antichymotrypsin antibody was raised in Mouse using a protein purified from Human plasma as the immunogen
Preparation and Storage
Aliquot and store for 1 year at -20 degree C, avoid freeze/thaw cycles

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a plasma protease inhibitor and member of the serine protease inhibitor class. Polymorphisms in this protein appear to be tissue specific and influence protease targeting. Variations in this protein's sequence have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease, and deficiency of this protein has been associated with liver disease. Mutations have been identified in patients with Parkinson disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

SERPINA3: Although its physiological function is unclear, it can inhibit neutrophil cathepsin G and mast cell chymase, both of which can convert angiotensin-1 to the active angiotensin-2. Belongs to the serpin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The SERPINA3 serpina3 (Catalog #AAA832642) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's alpha1 antichymotrypsin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin. WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SERPINA3 serpina3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "alpha1 antichymotrypsin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
