Related Product Information for MDK recombinant protein
Midkine (MK) is the product of a retinoic acid responsive gene, MK, and is a member of a family of heparin binding factors. It contains 121 amino acid residues including 10 conserved cysteine residues, all of which appear to be disulfide linked. Midkine is expressed during embryogenesis, showing an expression pattern that suggests functions in neurogenesis, cell migration, secondary organogenetic induction, and mesoderm-epithelial interaction. The widespread downregulation of MK in the adult human is reverted in a number of cancers, in which polypeptides are able to act as both transforming growth factors and promoters of angiogenesis. Midkine (MK), induces chemotaxis of human neutrophils and was found to trigger mobilization of intracellular calcium of these cells. Midkine induces histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells with a rapid response in a dosedependent manner. Midkine is also a potent stimulator of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis.

Recombinant Human Midkine is manufactured with N-terminal fusion of HisTag, having a molecular mass of 14.6kD protein and containing 121 amino acid residues of the human Midkine and 10 additional amino acid residues-HisTag

NCBI Description

Midkine is a retinoic acid-responsive, heparin-binding growth factor expressed in various cell types during embryogenesis. It promotes angiogenesis, cell growth, and cell migration. Midkine is also expressed in several carcinomas, suggesting that it may play a role in tumorigenesis, perhaps through its effects on angiogenesis (summary by Reynolds et al., 2004 [PubMed 15197188]).[supplied by OMIM]

Uniprot Description

Function: Has heparin binding activity, and growth promoting activity. Involved in neointima formation after arterial injury, possibly by mediating leukocyte recruitment. Also involved in early fetal adrenal gland development

By similarity. Ref.2

Subunit structure: Homodimer. Ref.9

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Induction: By heparin and retinoic acid. Ref.2 Ref.7

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the pleiotrophin family.

Product Notes

The MDK mdk (Catalog #AAA651014) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Suitable for use in Western blot and ELISA.,. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MDK mdk for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: KKKDKVKKGG PGSECAEWAW GPCTPSSKDC GVGFREGTCG AQTQRIRCRV PCNWKKEFGA DCKYKFENWG ACDGGTGTKV RQGTLKKARY NAQCQETIRV TKPCTPKTKA KAKAKKGKGK D. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Midkine, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
