Related Product Information for LRP-1 elisa kit
Low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (alpha-2-macroglobulin receptor), also known as LRP1 or CD91, is a protein forming a receptor found in the plasma membrane of human cells involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis.Neurons require cholesterol to function. Cholesterol is imported into the neuron by the apolipoprotein apoE4 via LRP1 receptors on the cell surface. It is thought that a causal factor in Alzheimer's is the malfunction of this process which damages neurons by starving them of cholesterol. The protein showed strong calcium binding. Kristensen et al. (1990) and Strickland et al. (1990) demonstrated that LRP is identical to the alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) receptor (A2MR). Like the mannose-6-phosphate receptor, the A2MR/LRP molecule is probably bifunctional.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate LRP1 in samples. An antibody specific for LRP1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyLRP1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for LRP1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of LRP1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the low-density lipoprotein receptor family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed by furin to generate 515 kDa and 85 kDa subunits that form the mature receptor (PMID: 8546712). This receptor is involved in several cellular processes, including intracellular signaling, lipid homeostasis, and clearance of apoptotic cells. In addition, the encoded protein is necessary for the alpha 2-macroglobulin-mediated clearance of secreted amyloid precursor protein and beta-amyloid, the main component of amyloid plaques found in Alzheimer patients. Expression of this gene decreases with age and has been found to be lower than controls in brain tissue from Alzheimer's disease patients. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2015]

Uniprot Description

LRP1: a receptor involved in endocytosis, phagocytosis of apoptotic cells, and neural signaling. Modulates cellular events including APP metabolism, kinase-dependent intracellular signaling, neuronal calcium signaling and neurotransmission. Involved in the plasma clearance of chylomicron remnants and activated alpha 2-macroglobulin, as well as the local metabolism of complexes between plasminogen activators and their endogenous inhibitors. Plays a fundamental role in cellular signaling pathways in the brain. Mediates neural NMDA gating via a complex of LRP1, PSD-95 and NMDAR. A type I membrane protein. After cleavage, the intracellular domain (LRPICD) is detected both in the cytoplasm and in the nucleus. Most abundant in liver, brain and lung.

Product Notes

The Human LRP-1 lrp1 (Catalog #AAA284769) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA284769 ELISA Kit recognizes Human LRP-1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Low-density lipoprotein-receptor-related protein 1, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
