Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for LECT2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any LECT2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for LECT2 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of LECT2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that is secreted by white adipocytes, and which plays a major role in the regulation of body weight. This protein, which acts through the leptin receptor, functions as part of a signaling pathway that can inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure to maintain constancy of the adipose mass. This protein also has several endocrine functions, and is involved in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and wound healing. Mutations in this gene and/or its regulatory regions cause severe obesity, and morbid obesity with hypogonadism. This gene has also been linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus development.
