NCBI Description

This gene encodes ketohexokinase that catalyzes conversion of fructose to fructose-1-phosphate. The product of this gene is the first enzyme with a specialized pathway that catabolizes dietary fructose. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

KHK iso2: Defects in KHK are the cause of fructosuria (FRUCT). Benign defect of intermediary metabolism. Belongs to the carbohydrate kinase PfkB family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Carbohydrate Metabolism - fructose and mannose; EC 2.7.1.3; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2p23.3

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: ketohexokinase activity; ATP binding

Biological Process: carbohydrate metabolic process; carbohydrate phosphorylation; pathogenesis; fructose catabolic process

Disease: Fructosuria, Essential

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Ketohexokinase (KHK), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
