Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate IMPA1 in samples. An antibody specific for IMPA1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyIMPA1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for IMPA1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IMPA1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Responsible for the provision of inositol required for synthesis of phosphatidylinositol and polyphosphoinositides and has been implicated as the pharmacological target for lithium action in brain. Has broad substrate specificity and can use myo-inositol monophosphates, myo-inositol 1,3-diphosphate, myo-inositol 1,4-diphosphate, scyllo-inositol-phosphate, D-galactose 1-phosphate, glucose-1-phosphate, glucose-6-phosphate, fructose-1-phosphate, beta-glycerophosphate, and 2'-AMP as substrates.
