Related Product Information for IL18BP elisa kit
Principle of the assay: human IL-18BP ELISA Kit was based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for IL-18BP has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards(NSO, T31-G194) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for IL-18BP is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB was used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the human IL-18BP amount of sample captured in plate.
Background: Interleukin-18-binding protein, also known as IL18BPa, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL18BP gene. It is mapped to 11q13.4. The protein encoded by this gene is an inhibitor of the proinflammatory cytokine IL18. This protein binds to IL18, prevents the binding of IL18 to its receptor, and thus inhibits IL18-induced IFN-gamma production. This protein is constitutively expressed and secreted in mononuclear cells. The expression of this protein can be enhanced by IFN-gamma. It has been found that IL18BP expression in intestinal tissue is increased in endothelial cells as well as cells of the submucosa and overlying lymphoid aggregates in Crohn disease.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene functions as an inhibitor of the proinflammatory cytokine, IL18. It binds IL18, prevents the binding of IL18 to its receptor, and thus inhibits IL18-induced IFN-gamma production, resulting in reduced T-helper type 1 immune responses. This protein is constitutively expressed and secreted in mononuclear cells. Elevated level of this protein is detected in the intestinal tissues of patients with Crohn's disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]

Uniprot Description

IL18BP: Isoform A binds to IL-18 and inhibits its activity. Functions as an inhibitor of the early TH1 cytokine response. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q13

Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region

Molecular Function: receptor antagonist activity; interleukin-18 binding

Biological Process: T-helper 1 type immune response; response to lipopolysaccharide

Product Notes

The Human IL18BP il18bp (Catalog #AAA177289) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA177289 ELISA Kit recognizes Human IL18BP. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL-18BP, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
