NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is one of the several proteins that become sequentially incorporated into the cornified cell envelope during the terminal differentiation of keratinocyte at the outer layers of epidermis. This protein interacts with periplakin, which is known as a precursor of the cornified cell envelope. The cellular localization pattern and insolubility of this protein suggest that it may play a role in epithelial differentiation and contribute to epidermal integrity and barrier formation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Component of the HUSH complex, a multiprotein complex that mediates epigenetic repression. The HUSH complex is recruited to genomic loci rich in H3K9me3 and is probably required to maintain transcriptional silencing by promoting recruitment of SETDB1, a histone methyltransferase that mediates further deposition of H3K9me3. In the HUSH complex, contributes to the maintenance of the complex at chromatin (PubMed:26022416). Acts as a transcriptional corepressor and regulates the cell cycle, probably via the HUSH complex (PubMed:15474462, PubMed:17963697). May be involved in epithelial differentiation by contributing to epidermal integrity and barrier formation (Probable).

Product Notes

The PPHLN pphln1 (Catalog #AAA8514092) is an Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The PPHLN Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PPHLN can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:500~1:1000 IHC:1:50~1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PPHLN pphln1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PPHLN, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
