Background: S100 calcium-binding protein A13 (S100A13) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the S100A13 gene. The characterization of a human gene, S100A13 encodes a calcium-binding protein belonging to the S100 protein family. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein is widely expressed in various types of tissues with a high expression level in thyroid gland. In smooth muscle cells, this protein co-expresses with other family members in the nucleus and in stress fibers, suggesting diverse functions in signal transduction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
Principle: Human S100A13 ELISA Kit was based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from Mouse specific for S100A13 has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards (Expression system for standard: E Coli, Immunogen sequence: M1-K98) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for S100A13 is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substRate TMB was used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the Human S100A13 amount of sample captured in plate.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
S100A13: Plays a role in the export of proteins that lack a signal peptide and are secreted by an alternative pathway. Binds two calcium ions per subunit. Binds one copper ion. Binding of one copper ion does not interfere with calcium binding. Required for the copper-dependent stress-induced export of IL1A and FGF1. The calcium-free protein binds to lipid vesicles containing phosphatidylserine, but not to vesicles containing phosphatidylcholine. Belongs to the S-100 family.
