Background: Resistin also known as adipose tissue-specific secretory factor or C/EBP-epsilon-regulated myeloid-specific secreted cysteine-rich protein (XCP1) is a cysteine-rich protein that in humans is encoded by the RETN gene. The gene comprises 4 exons, the first of which is untranslated, and spans approximately 1,750 bp. The length of the resistin pre-peptide in human is 108 amino acid residues and in the Human and rat it is 114 aa; the molecular weight is ~12.5 kDa. Resistin is a cytokine whose physiologic role has been the subject of much controversy regarding its involvement with obesity and type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene belongs to the family defined by the mouse resistin-like genes. The characteristic feature of this family is the C-terminal stretch of 10 cys residues with identical spacing. The mouse homolog of this protein is secreted by adipocytes, and may be the hormone potentially linking obesity to type II diabetes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]
Uniprot Description
Function: Hormone that seems to suppress insulin ability to stimulate glucose uptake into adipose cells. Potentially links obesity to diabetes.
Subunit structure: Homodimer; disulfide-linked
By similarity.
Subcellular location: Secreted.
Tissue specificity: Expressed only in fatty tissues.
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the resistin/FIZZ family.

Product Notes
The Human RETN retn (Catalog #AAA355429) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA355429 ELISA Kit recognizes Human RETN. AAA Biotech's Resistin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Quantitative sELISA (EIA). For quantitative detection of Resistin in human serum, plasma, body fluids, tissue lysates or cell culture supernatants. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the RETN retn for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Resistin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
