Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Opsin 5 (also known as OPN5) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human OPN5 antibody. OPN5 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human OPN5 Antibody is added and binds to OPN5 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated OPN5 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human OPN5. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Opsins are members of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein)-coupled receptor superfamily. This opsin gene is expressed in the eye, brain, testes, and spinal cord. This gene belongs to the seven-exon subfamily of mammalian opsin genes that includes peropsin (RRH) and retinal G protein coupled receptor (RGR). Like these other seven-exon opsin genes, this family member may encode a protein with photoisomerase activity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
