Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Melanotransferrin (also known as MFI2) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.

Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human MFI2 antibody. MFI2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human MFI2 Antibody is added and binds to MFI2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MFI2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human MFI2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a cell-surface glycoprotein found on melanoma cells. The protein shares sequence similarity and iron-binding properties with members of the transferrin superfamily. The importance of the iron binding function has not yet been identified. This gene resides in the same region of chromosome 3 as members of the transferrin superfamily. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
