Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for KIAA1199 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells with a Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated antibody specific for KIAA1199. Following a wash to remove any unbound reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of KIAA1199 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Function: Mediates depolymerization of hyaluronic acid (HA) via the cell membrane-associated clathrin-coated pit endocytic pathway. Binds to hyaluronic acid. Hydrolyzes high molecular weight hyaluronic acid to produce an intermediate-sized product, a process that may occur through rapid vesicle endocytosis and recycling without intracytoplasmic accumulation or digestion in lysosomes. Involved in hyaluronan catabolism in the dermis of the skin and arthritic synovium. Positively regulates epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and hence tumor cell growth, invasion and cancer dissemination.
