Related Product Information for AMY2A active protein
Amylase is an enzyme that breaks starch down into sugar. Amylase is present in human saliva, where it begins the chemical process of digestion. Foods that contain much starch but little sugar, such as rice and potato, taste slightly sweet as they are chewed because amylase turns some of their starch into sugar in the mouth. Alpha-Amylase is an enzyme that hydrolyses alpha-bonds of large alpha-linked polysaccharides such as starch and glycogen, yielding glucose and maltose. It is being used by researchers as a barometer of the body's response to physical or psychological stress. NIH study shows that Women with high levels of alpha amylase, indicating stress, are less likely to conceive.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a type II transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the M28 peptidase family. The protein acts as a glutamate carboxypeptidase on different alternative substrates, including the nutrient folate and the neuropeptide N-acetyl-l-aspartyl-l-glutamate and is expressed in a number of tissues such as prostate, central and peripheral nervous system and kidney. A mutation in this gene may be associated with impaired intestinal absorption of dietary folates, resulting in low blood folate levels and consequent hyperhomocysteinemia. Expression of this protein in the brain may be involved in a number of pathological conditions associated with glutamate excitotoxicity. In the prostate the protein is up-regulated in cancerous cells and is used as an effective diagnostic and prognostic indicator of prostate cancer. This gene likely arose from a duplication event of a nearby chromosomal region. Alternative splicing gives rise to multiple transcript variants encoding several different isoforms. Uniprot Description

FOLH1: Has both folate hydrolase and N-acetylated-alpha-linked- acidic dipeptidase (NAALADase) activity. Has a preference for tri- alpha-glutamate peptides. In the intestine, required for the uptake of folate. In the brain, modulates excitatory neurotransmission through the hydrolysis of the neuropeptide, N- aceylaspartylglutamate (NAAG), thereby releasing glutamate. Isoform PSM-4 and isoform PSM-5 would appear to be physiologically irrelevant. Involved in prostate tumor progression. Belongs to the peptidase M28 family. M28B subfamily. 8 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; EC 3.4.17.21; Protease

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p11.2

Cellular Component: membrane; integral to plasma membrane; cytoplasm

Molecular Function: peptidase activity; dipeptidase activity; metallopeptidase activity; carboxypeptidase activity; metal ion binding

Biological Process: folic acid and derivative metabolic process; proteolysis

Product Notes

The AMY2A folh1 (Catalog #AAA849928) is an Active Protein produced from HEK293 cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PSMA/FOLH1, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
