Background: GSTK1 gene encodes a member of the kappa class of the glutathione transferase superfamily of enzymes that function in cellular detoxification. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes that catalyze a variety of reactions in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. They catalyze the conjugation of reduced glutathione with potentially toxic, xenobiotic substrates, thus aiding excretion from the body. GSTK1(glutathione S-transferase kappa 1) is localized to the peroxisome and catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to a wide range of hydrophobic substates facilitating the removal of these compounds from cells. GSTK1 functions in cellular detoxification.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the kappa class of the glutathione transferase superfamily of enzymes that function in cellular detoxification. The encoded protein is localized to the peroxisome and catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to a wide range of hydrophobic substates facilitating the removal of these compounds from cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

Uniprot Description

GSTK1: Significant glutathione conjugating activity is found only with the model substrate, 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB). Belongs to the GST superfamily. Kappa family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The GSTK1 gstk1 (Catalog #AAA8121659) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Gly2-Leu22 6. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GSTK1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
