Related Product Information for FGF-12 active protein
FGF-12 is part of the Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) family which has a vast mitogenic and cell survival functions, and play a role in a range of biological activities, among them are embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. FGF-12 doesn't obtain the N-terminal signal sequence present in the majority of the FGF family members, but it contains clusters of basic residues that act as a nuclear localization signal. When transfected into mammalian cells, FGF-12 accumulated in the nucleus, but was not secreted. FGF-12 is involved in nervous system development and function. FGF-12 binds to IB2 (islet brain-2), a cellular kinase scaffold, and voltage gated sodium channels and is also involved in intracellular signaling and ion exchange. FGF-12 is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain produced in E. coli, having a molecular weight of 22.6 kDa and containing 201 amino acids (1-181). The FGF12 is fused to a 20 amino acid His tag at the N-terminus.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. This growth factor lacks the N-terminal signal sequence present in most of the FGF family members, but it contains clusters of basic residues that have been demonstrated to act as a nuclear localization signal. When transfected into mammalian cells, this protein accumulated in the nucleus, but was not secreted. The specific function of this gene has not yet been determined. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Probably involved in nervous system development and function.

Subunit structure: Interacts with the C-terminal region of SCN9A

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Nucleus

Probable.

Tissue specificity: Brain, eye and testis; highly expressed in embryonic retina, olfactory epithelium, olfactory bulb, and in a segmental pattern of the body wall; in adult olfactory bulb, less in cerebellum, deep cerebellar nuclei, cortex and multiple midbrain structures.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the heparin-binding growth factors family.

Product Notes

The FGF-12 fgf12 (Catalog #AAA691973) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human FGF-12 reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MSSHHHHHH SSGLVPRGSH MESKEPQLKG IVTRLFSQQG YFLQMHP DGT IDGTKDENSD YTLFNLIPVG LRVVAIQGVK ASLYVAMNGE YL YSSDVFT PECKFKESVF ENYYVIYSST LYRQQESGRA WFLGLNKEG Q IMKGNRVKKT KPSSHFVPKP IEVCMYREQS LHEIGEKQGR RKSS GTPTM NGGKVVNQDS T. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FGF-12, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
