Related Product Information for CHKB active protein
Choline Kinase (E.C. 2.7.1.32) is an enzyme which catalyzes the first reaction in the choline pathway for the synthesis of the membrane phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. It belongs to the family of transferase and uses Mg2+ as a cofactor to transfer a phosphate group from ATP to choline to form phosphocholine. Choline Kinase plays a critical role in cell growth. In humans, choline kinase A and B are present and they share >60% homology. Both of them are implicated in different human diseases as choline kinase A is suggested to associate with breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and bladder cancers due to its high expression in different cancer tissues whereas choline kinase B is suggested to be involved in muscular dystrophy. active human choline kinase B is suitable for functional assays, high-throughput screening and preclinical studies in drug discovery. Plays a key role in phospholipid biosynthesis

NCBI Description

Choline kinase (CK) and ethanolamine kinase (EK) catalyze the phosphorylation of choline/ethanolamine to phosphocholine/phosphoethanolamine. This is the first enzyme in the biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine/phosphatidylethanolamine in all animal cells. The highly purified CKs from mammalian sources and their recombinant gene products have been shown to have EK activity also, indicating that both activities reside on the same protein. The choline kinase-like protein encoded by CHKL belongs to the choline/ethanolamine kinase family; however, its exact function is not known. Read-through transcripts are expressed from this locus that include exons from the downstream CPT1B locus. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009]

Uniprot Description

CHKB: Has a key role in phospholipid biosynthesis. Catalyzes the first step in phosphatidylethanolamine biosynthesis. Phosphorylates ethanolamine, and can also act on choline (in vitro). Has higher activity with ethanolamine. May not significantly contribute to in vivo phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis. Belongs to the choline/ethanolamine kinase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The CHKB chkb (Catalog #AAA849847) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Choline Kinase B, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
