Biological Activity
Determined by its inhibitory effect on the proliferation of TF-1 cells previously grown in media containing GM-CSF. The ED50 for this effect was observed at 7ng/ml.

Reconstitution
Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O to 0.1-1.0mg/ml. Add buffer containing carrier protein for long term storage.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Add carrier protein and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

The SCGFs are non-glycosylated species-specific cytokines that can support growth of primitive hematopoietic cells, and in combination with EPO or GM-CSF, promote proliferation or erthroid or myeloid progenitors, respectively. Recombinant human SCGFb is a 25kD polypeptide containing 227 amino acid residues.
