Related Product Information for CST2 recombinant protein
Background: Cystatin-SA, also known as Cystatin-2, Cystatin-S5 and CST2, is a secreted protein which belongs to the cystatin family. Cystatin-2 / CST2 is expressed in submandibular and sublingual saliva but not in parotid saliva (at protein level). It is also expressed in submandibular gland and parotid gland. The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins that contain multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some of the members are active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost or perhaps never acquired this inhibitory activity. There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily, including the type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins and the kininogens. The type 2 cystatin proteins are a class of cysteine proteinase inhibitors found in a variety of human fluids and secretions, where they appear to provide protective functions. The CST1, CST2, CST4, and CST5 are expressed in differential, tissue-specific patterns. Expression of CST2 and CST5 is restricted to the submandibular and parotid glands, while CST1 and CST4 are expressed in these tissues and in the lacrimal gland.

Description: A DNA sequence encoding the human CST2 (NP_001313.1) (Met 1-Ala 141) was fused with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus.

NCBI Description

The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins that contain multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some of the members are active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost or perhaps never acquired this inhibitory activity. There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily, including the type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins and the kininogens. The type 2 cystatin proteins are a class of cysteine proteinase inhibitors found in a variety of human fluids and secretions, where they appear to provide protective functions. The cystatin locus on chromosome 20 contains the majority of the type 2 cystatin genes and pseudogenes. This gene is located in the cystatin locus and encodes a secreted thiol protease inhibitor found at high levels in saliva, tears and seminal plasma. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Product Notes

The CST2 cst2 (Catalog #AAA2545743) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The secreted recombinant human CST2 consists of 132 amino acids and migrates as an approximately 16 kDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions as predicted. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CST2 cst2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cystatin SA / CST2, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
