Related Product Information for COL8a1 elisa kit
Principle of the Assay: COL8a1 ELISA kit applies the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique utilizing a monoclonal anti-COL8a1 antibody and an COL8a1-HRP conjugate. The assay sample and buffer are incubated together with COL8a1-HRP conjugate in pre-coated plate for one hour. After the incubation period, the wells are decanted and washed five times. The wells are then incubated with a substrate for HRP enzyme. The product of the enzyme-substrate reaction forms a blue colored complex. Finally, a stop solution is added to stop the reaction, which will then turn the solution yellow. The intensity of color is measured spectrophotometrically at 450nm in a microplate reader. The intensity of the color is inversely proportional to the COL8a1 concentration since COL8a1 from samples and COL8a1-HRP conjugate compete for the anti-COL8a1 antibody binding site. Since the number of sites is limited, as more sites are occupied by COL8a1 from the sample, fewer sites are left to bind COL8a1-HRP conjugate. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The COL8a1 concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes one of the two alpha chains of type VIII collagen. The gene product is a short chain collagen and a major component of the basement membrane of the corneal endothelium. The type VIII collagen fibril can be either a homo- or a heterotrimer. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Uniprot Description

COL8A1: Macromolecular component of the subendothelium. Major component of the Descemet's membrane (basement membrane) of corneal endothelial cells. Also component of the endothelia of blood vessels. Necessary for migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells and thus, has a potential role in the maintenance of vessel wall integrity and structure, in particular in atherogenesis.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q12.3

Cellular Component: extracellular matrix; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; endoplasmic reticulum lumen; collagen type VIII; extracellular region

Biological Process: extracellular matrix disassembly; collagen catabolic process; epithelial cell proliferation; extracellular matrix organization and biogenesis; camera-type eye morphogenesis; angiogenesis; cell adhesion

Product Notes

The Porcine COL8a1 col8a1 (Catalog #AAA736153) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA736153 ELISA Kit recognizes Porcine COL8a1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Collagen Type VIII Alpha 1, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
