NCBI Description

The Cel+ phenotype is due to mutations making expression chitobiose-independent, but a fully induced operon did not support growth on cellobiose, implying a mutation altering the substrate specificity is needed; several candidate mutations were noted in Genbank, but not proven to alter the specificity of the system (Keyhani, 1997). [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10143]. "Chitobiose regulator," ChbR, is a dual transcriptional factor that regulates an operon (chb) involved in transport and degradation of the -glucoside N,N'-diacetylchitobiose (chitobiose) . [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10143].

Uniprot Description

Dual-function repressor/activator of the chbBCARFG operon. In the absence of the inducing sugar chitobiose, together with NagC, represses the chbBCARFG operon for the uptake and metabolism of chitobiose. In association with Crp, and probably in the presence of chitobiose 6-phosphate, induces the transcription of the chbBCARFG operon.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "HTH-type transcriptional regulator ChbR (chbR), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
