Related Product Information for BPIFA1 recombinant protein
BPIFA1, also known as PLuNC, belongs to the short subfamily of PLuNC family proteins and have homology only to the Nterminal domains of BPI. It is a secreted protein that is expressed in the secretory ducts and submucosal glands of tracheobronchial tissues. BPIFA1 binds to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in nasal lavage fluid (NLF) which points to its role in the inflammatory response of the upper airways after exposure to irritants. Decreased levels of BPIFA1 occur in the NLF of smokers and people who have been exposed to reactive epoxy chemicals, indicating that long-term exposure to airway irritants impairs the production of BPIFA1 in the upper respiratory tract. Recombinant human BPIFA1 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E Coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.

NCBI Description

This gene is the human homolog of murine plunc, and like the mouse gene, is specifically expressed in the upper airways and nasopharyngeal regions. The encoded antimicrobial protein displays antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. It is thought to be involved in inflammatory responses to irritants in the upper airways and may also serve as a potential molecular marker for detection of micrometastasis in non-small-cell lung cancer. Multiple transcript variants resulting from alternative splicing in the 3' UTR have been detected, but the full-length nature of only three are known. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]

Uniprot Description

Plays a role in the innate immune responses of the upper airways. Reduces the surface tension in secretions from airway epithelia and inhibits the formation of biofilm by pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria, such as P.aeruginosa and K.pneumoniae. Binds bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Negatively regulates proteolytic cleavage of SCNN1G, an event that is required for activation of the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), and thereby contributes to airway surface liquid homeostasis and proper clearance of mucus. Plays a role in the airway inflammatory response after exposure to irritants. May attract macrophages and neutrophils. May be associated with tumor progression.

Product Notes

The BPIFA1 bpifa1 (Catalog #AAA204992) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is His-tag. AAA Biotech's BPIFA1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BPIFA1 bpifa1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MGSSHHHHHH SSGLVPRGSH MGSQFGGLPV PLDQTLPLNV NPALPLSPTG LAGSLTNALS NGLLSGGLLG ILENLPLLDI LKPGGGTSGG LLGGLLGKVT SVIPGLNNII DIKVTDPQLL ELGLVQSPDG HRLYVTIPLG IKLQVNTPLV GASLLRLAVK LDITAEILAV RDKQERIHLV LGDCTHSPGS LQISLLDGLG PLPIQGLLDS LTGILNKVLP ELVQGNVCPL VNEVLRGLDI TLVHDIVNML IHGLQFVIKV. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BPIFA1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
