Specificity
The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody was selected from the Center region of human COL17A1. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.
Form/Format
Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.
Sequence Length
1497
Cellular Location
Cell junction, hemidesmosome. Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. Note: Localized along the plasma membrane of the hemidesmosome 97 kDa linear IgA disease antigen: Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix, basement membrane Note: Localized in the lamina lucida beneath the hemidesmosomes
Tissue Location
Stratified squamous epithelia. Found in hemidesmosomes. Expressed in cornea, oral mucosa, esophagus, intestine, kidney collecting ducts, ureter, bladder, urethra and thymus but is absent in lung, blood vessels, skeletal muscle and nerves.
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8 degree C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20 degree C.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the alpha chain of type XVII collagen. Unlike most collagens, collagen XVII is a transmembrane protein. Collagen XVII is a structural component of hemidesmosomes, multiprotein complexes at the dermal-epidermal basement membrane zone that mediate adhesion of keratinocytes to the underlying membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with both generalized atrophic benign and junctional epidermolysis bullosa. Two homotrimeric forms of type XVII collagen exist. The full length form is the transmembrane protein. A soluble form, referred to as either ectodomain or LAD-1, is generated by proteolytic processing of the full length form. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

COL17A1: May play a role in the integrity of hemidesmosome and the attachment of basal keratinocytes to the underlying basement membrane. Defects in COL17A1 are a cause of generalized atrophic benign epidermolysis bullosa (GABEB). GABEB is a non- lethal, adult form of junctional epidermolysis bullosa characterized by life-long blistering of the skin, associated with hair and tooth abnormalities. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The COL17A1 col17a1 (Catalog #AAA9228016) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "COL17A1, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
