Narasin is an ionophore antibiotic which is a derivative of salinomycin. It modifies the permeability of cellular membranes to cationic metal species. It inhibits NF-kappaB signaling via inhibition of IkappaBalpha phosphorylation with an IC50 of 3.2uM. Treatment with narasin (2-4uM) and TRAIL synergistically induces apoptosis in human glioma cells by inducing ER stress and CHOP upregulation.
