Background/Introduction: Substance P is a undecapeptide that displays a number of biological activities. The peptide was first discovered in 1931 by von Euler and Gaddum3. They reported that extracts of equine brain and intestine contained a hypotensive and spasmogenic factor. The preparation, termed preparation P, was later found to be proteinaceous4. The isolation and characterization of Substance P was carried out by Leeman's group in 19705,6. The structure is shown below. Substance P is synthesized in the ribosomes as a larger protein and then enzymatically converted into the active peptide. The peptide is widely distributed in the peripheral and central nervous systems of vertebrates, where it is thought to act as a neurotransmitter7-9. In the peripheral system, Substance P is localized in the primary sensory neurons and neurons intrinsic to the gastrointestinal tract. Excellent reviews on the distribution and action of Substance P and other tachykinins are available10-13.

Product Notes

The Sucrose (Catalog #AAA8243255) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Sucrose can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Functional Assay. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Sucrose for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Sucrose, Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
