Biological Activity
The ED50 determined by the leptin-dependent stimulation of human OB-R transfected murine BaF3 indicator cells is 0.35-0.06ng/ml.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. For long-term storage add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Related Product Information for Lep active protein
Leptin (Anti-Obesity Protein) is the protein product of the ob (obese) gene in mice and seems to be involved in appetite control. The ob gene is expressed in adipose tissue and is thought to regulate the body's fat stores. Mice with the ob/ob genotype also develop a form of diabetes similar to type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes. Rat Leptin is a 16.2kD protein containing 147 amino acid residues.

NCBI Description

involved in regulation of body weight, and may have a role in angiogenesis [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Function: May function as part of a signaling pathway that acts to regulate the size of the body fat depot. An increase in the level of Lep may act directly or indirectly on the CNS to inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure as part of a homeostatic mechanism to maintain constancy of the adipose mass.

Subcellular location: Secreted

Probable.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the leptin family.

Product Notes

The Lep lep (Catalog #AAA637134) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Leptin, Rat, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
