* Allow all reagents to warm to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before opening.
* Pre-rinse the pipet tip with reagent, use fresh pipet tips for each sample, standard and reagent to avoid contamination.
* Unused wells must be kept desiccated at 4 degree C in the sealed bag provided.
* Mix Thoroughly is very important for the result. It is recommended using low frequency oscillator or slight hand shaking every 10 minutes.
* It is recommended that all samples and standards be assayed in duplicate or triplicate.

Background: EGFL6 encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeat superfamily.The predicted 553-amino acid EGFL6 protein has a putative N-terminal signal peptide, which suggests that it is secreted; an EGF repeat region containing 4 complete EGF-like repeats and 1 partial EGF-like repeat; an integrin association motif (RGD); 2 potential N-glycosylation sites; and a potential tyrosine phosphorylation site. Northern blot analysis of a variety of normal human tissues detected an approximately 2.4-kb EGFL6 transcript only in placenta. Among the cancer tissues tested, EGFL6 expression was found only in meningioma tumors. Screening-by-hybridization analysis of various cDNA libraries indicated EGFL6 expression in lung tumor, fetal lung, fetal skin, fetal umbilical cord, fetal liver/spleen, and placenta, but not in normal adult tissues, including lung.

This gene encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeat superfamily. Members of this superfamily are characterized by the presence of EGF-like repeats and are often involved in the regulation of cell cycle, proliferation, and developmental processes. The gene product contains a signal peptide, suggesting that it is secreted; an EGF repeat region consisting of 4 complete EGF-like repeats and 1 partial EGF-like repeat, 3 of which have a calcium-binding consensus sequence; an arg-gly-asp integrin association motif; and a MAM domain, which is believed to have an adhesive function.
